How to Train Your Dragon 2: A Movie Review

Last weekend, for family movie night, my husband decided to take advantage of a Netflix free trial so we could watch something that we haven't watched a thousand times already (you know, like Frozen).  (And we didn't have a free Redbox code, so that was out of the question.) After flipping through the kids movies for a while, we came across How to Train Your Dragon 2.  Now, I'm sure I have watched How to Train Your Dragon, but I really don't remember anything about it.  I'm not really sure why that is, but in any case I agreed to the second…

Don’t Give Up: A Lesson in Perseverance

Lately, I really feel like God has really been putting the topic of persistence on my heart.  It first came up when I read the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18:2-6.  Here's how my Bible reads: "...In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.  And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' 5 Valuable Resources for Tweens (and Their Parents!)

Going into last week, I had no idea what I was in for. I thought I was entering a growth opportunity for myself, but instead I found many more resources to help grow my daughters into the young women God intends them to be. For two hours a day, I entered into the world of the "tween." Since Rapunzel turned eight, I've been slowly seeking out resources that would help her grow as a Christian, but it's been difficult to find Christian music, tv, and books that compare to what Disney and Nickelodeon have to offer for that age group.…

Summer Rules: Aiming for a Meaningful Summer

Do you make your kids work of over summer break? I do. But it's not what you think. I'm not breaking any child labor laws--don't worry. :) What I'm talking about is not making my kids earn an extra buck here and there (although they do like to do that at Grandma's house!). Instead, it's about teaching them the value of hard work, avoiding summer learning loss, and teaching them that it's not okay to be lazy. I usually have to go round after them doing everything again as they're not as thorough as I like to be, for example…

DIY Raised Garden Bed: Part 2

A few weeks ago, we took the plunge to start up our summer garden again. We booked a lawn care specialist from https://www.lawncare.net/service-areas/massachusetts/ to come and take a look at what could be done to get the grass looking a little happier. Prince Charming built another planter box for us, and we took an entire morning to loosen the ground, spread soil, and plant our seeds. You can see how badly the garden looked before and after in the gallery shown below. It definitely looks so much better! This year, we planted sweet corn, carrots, watermelon, cucumber, zucchini, sunflowers, geraniums,…
