My Intro to Publishing

I have to say that things seem to be working out pretty well in support of this book.  Thanks to my first two backers; I’m so excited to be jumping into this project with both feet with support from my friends and family!

For those still considering backing my project as well as for those who already have, I wanted to give you some insight as to where this $20,000 will be going.

My original hope was to be published by Thomas Nelson/Zondervan, a Christian publishing company.  Unfortunately, they are not accepting manuscripts of this type right now; however, I did discover that they’re sister company, WestBow Press, will help me publish my book.

WestBow Press is the self-publishing division of Thomas Nelson/Zondervan.  I hadn’t originally intended on self-publishing, but after reading through all of the information on their website, I think this looks like the perfect option for me.  $20,000 through WestBow Press will provide me with the following:

  • Publishing in softcover format
  • An ISBN Number
  • Complimentary author copy
  • Worldwide book distribution
  • Library of Congress control number
  • US Copyright registration
  • Publishing in E-Book format and distribution
  • Publishing in hardcover format
  • 50 image insertions/text treatments
  • Book interior and cover design
  • Data entry service
  • Editorial assessment
  • Index service
  • Line editing service (30,000 words)
  • 120 free book stubs
  • 320 free paperback copies
  • 20 free hardcover copies
  • B&N Inside the Book
  • Google and Amazon search program
  • Booksellers return program
  • Author website
  • Social Media Setup Guide
  • 400 promotional materials (bookmarks, postcards, business cards)
  • Book signing kit
  • Standard book video
  • Included in the WestBow Press Catalog
  • Kirkus Indie review
  • Newsmaker Publicity Campaign – 12 weeks
  • 12-month free subscription to Author Learning Center

Working with WestBow will also give me the opportunity to be noticed by Zondervan and Thomas Nelson, possibly leading to further publishing with them.  I’m really excited about this opportunity, and I hope you will join in on the excitement!
