Choosing Just to Be

Today I was all determined to accomplish a host of things. And I did. I spent way more time that I had planned on working on the blog page, worked out, and even enjoyed a walk to the school to pick up Princess Anna from school.Everything went as planned, really, until bedtime. When my niece came up with this fantastic idea for a tea party that we can't attend, which led Princess Anna into a meltdown, because they my sister and niece are leaving on Wednesday and we won't see them again for a year. And somewhere along the way, I had…

For the Weary

I don't know about you, but I often forget how tired I am. Case in point: yesterday, I fell asleep on the couch while the kids were playing on the Wii.  All I remember: Princess Anna covering me with a blanket, bringing down her pillow and my old stuffed rabbit, removing my glasses, and telling me to let her know if I needed anything.  (My heart explodes with love for that girl.  But I digress...) And today, it hit me while I was in the shower.  I was so busy with the laundry-breakfast-devotions-get-the-kids-ready-for-school-pack-my-stuff-for-the-gym-get-ready-for-work-go-to-work-drop-off-the-kids-because-there-was-a-delay-still-make-it-to-the-gym-and-back-to-the-school-in-time-to-pick-up-princess-anna-and-get-to-the-tax-man's-in-time-and-oh-yes-eat-lunch-and-feed-the-kid-and-pets-in-there-somewhere busy-ness that it didn't hit me until…

When Mommy Goes Away…

...the kids will play.  In this case, 5 of them.  Unless you count the pets--then there are 7.  I hate to imagine what my house looked like while I was gone, but I am told that it was cleaned up before I came home.  (And you should have seen how it looked when I got back!) I have the feeling that Cinderella fed her two youngest sisters junk food throughout the days I was gone.  I haven't asked if the kids had baths, but I'm not sure I want to know.  Rapunzel said she brushed her own hair.  I'm afraid…

Book Review: “The Myth of the Perfect Mother” by Carla Barnhill

So, about 3 1/2 years or so ago...I started reading this book called The Myth of the Perfect Mother: Rethinking the Spirituality of Women by Carla Barnhill.  I finished it today, and I had such an opinion about it that I just had to share.  And maybe I'll continue to share other opinions in the future. So this book.  I got a few chapters into it and decided I hated it.  Actually, I read the first couple of pages and disagreed with her opinions but figured it might get better later.  And then a few chapters later...decided it wouldn't rectify itself.  But…

When Little Girls Cut Hair

So this weekend, Rapunzel had a friend over, and all was going well until I decided to order dinner. I walked away, the kids were supposed to clean up their mess and come downstairs.  5-10 minutes later, Tinkerbell comes downstairs with her hair chopped.  I mean chopped.  I was shocked, surprised, angry.  I didn't know what to say. Apparently Tinkerbell had decided she wanted her hair to look like Rapunzel's friend's.  So she told her to cut it and showed her where the scissors were.  They had to climb on top of the bathroom sink to get to the medicine cabinet…
